We are a
501-c (3) non-profit corporation. Our goal is to help redevelop historic
Cass Technical High School and the surrounding community. We are
governed by a board of distinguished Cass and DPS graduates.
Wrecking Ball Starting at Cass
Tech.
But You Can Stop It!
We thank those of you who have contributed several thousand dollars so far. On Monday March 28 we delivered a developer's $20,000 check (his money) and bid to the Detroit Public Schools administration. DPS would be more impressed by our other developer who knows Cass better. But banks aren't lending, despite the $700 billion TARP bailout they got from us taxpayers. If you believe Cass should stand another 90 years then please help. We're trying to raise $2 million by April 15. Then bigger developers will step in. Plans include artists' lofts, machine shop training, window-making, non-profit headquarters and eventually residential housing.
If the grungy Russell Industrial Center did it. Cass Tech can too.
We’ve found Joel Landy. He has redeveloped four Detroit schools. He has a
viable redevelopment plan for Cass. Also, Richard Baron has developed $2
billion of real estate in 33 cities. He’s a native Detroiter wanting to
give back.
This could be a $130 million project. It will be private investment not
taxpayer money. But if the Cass Tech community won’t contribute money
and ideas first, the developers won’t act. They’ve told us that.
The Historic Cass Tech Preservation Society is asking for your support.
You know what our school has done for you. Today, right now, help us
preserve Cass Tech’s legacy. This week, they’ve started to smash some
walls of the 1987 addition.
Cass Tech has 60,000 alumni. We want 10,000 alumni to donate $1,000
each. Give more if you can or whatever you can. It is tax-deductible.
You’ll get back 33% in tax deductions. Ask New York. Turning your iconic
buildings into ground zero kills your economy. But we’re here to fight.
For Detroit and Michigan to be strong again, we must rebuild instead of
tear down.
